About Josh Green

“The probability that we may fail in the struggle ought not to deter us from the support of a cause we believe to be just.”

Abraham Lincoln

Josh Green was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He received his undergraduate degree at Swarthmore College and later went on to attend Penn State University, where he received his medical degree in 1997.

After finishing medical school, Josh traveled to South Africa where he worked in missionary hospitals as a volunteer physician, treating a rural population overwhelmed by AIDS and malaria, before beginning residency training in family medicine. Upon completion of his residency, Josh accepted a position in the National Health Corps to practice medicine in under-served areas of Hawai'i.

Josh embraced his new home where he began working as an emergency room physician in a rural area on the Big Island of Hawaii.  In 2009 was named Hawaii Physician of the Year.

Josh was elected to the Hawaii State House of Representatives on November 2nd, 2004 and served two terms, spearheading the movement to provide affordable, and accessible quality healthcare for all the people of Hawaii.

Then in 2008 Josh was elected to the Hawaii State Senate where he currently serves as the Chair of the Human Services Committee where he is focusing on Hawaii's safety net and protecting the most vulnerable among us.

In 2006 Josh married Jamie Ushiroda and is the proud father of Maia and Sam.
